The main types of fades are the low fade, mid fade, high fade, skin fade, and taper. The difference comes down to two things: where the fade starts on the side of your head, and how short it gets at the bottom. Not sure which one to ask for? That's totally normal. At Undercover Barbershop in Moreno Valley, we'll help you pick the one that fits your style, your head shape, and how often you want to come in.
Here's the short version:
This is the question we hear most. A fade blends the hair on the sides and back from short to shorter, often down to the skin, and wraps all the way around your head. A taper is softer: it only gets shorter around the edges at your sideburns and neckline, and leaves more length on the sides.
Think of it this way: a taper is a clean finish, and a fade is a statement. Both look great. It just depends on the vibe you want. Both are included in our Fade/Taper ($50) service.
The fade starts just above your ears and curves down to the neckline. It's clean and professional, grows out nicely, and works for the office, school, or the weekend. A great first fade if you're trying one for the first time.
Starts about halfway up the sides, around your temples. It's the happy middle: sharper than a low fade but not as bold as a high one. This is the fade we cut most at our Moreno Valley shop.
Starts high on the sides, close to where your head starts to curve on top. It's bold, high contrast, and makes the hair on top really stand out. It does need touch-ups more often to stay sharp.
Any fade that blends all the way down to bare skin, usually finished with a razor. You can get a low, mid, or high skin fade. It's the cleanest look out there. Our Haircut & Beard ($55) includes a #0 razor bald fade.
A fade that curves around the ear in a half-circle and leaves length at the back. It's popular with curly hair and mullet styles.
The fade line drops lower behind the ear as it goes to the back, creating a curved shape. It adds a little extra style to any fade.
The edges at the sideburns and neckline get shorter while the rest of the sides keep some length. It's the most natural-looking option and grows out the easiest.
Good to know: The higher and shorter the fade, the faster it grows out. If you can only come in every 4 to 5 weeks, a low fade or taper will look better between visits.

A fade blends the whole sides and back from short to shorter, often down to the skin. A taper only shortens the edges at the sideburns and neckline and keeps more length on the sides.
The mid fade. It's sharp but balanced and works for almost everyone.
A low fade or a taper. Both are clean, easy to wear, and grow out nicely.
A fade that goes all the way down to bare skin, usually finished with a razor. It can be low, mid, or high.
A fade or taper is $50. A haircut with a razor bald fade plus a beard trim is $55.
